Typical annual expenses range from:
One of the biggest advantages of studying in the Americas is the opportunity to gain valuable international work experience after graduation. Several countries provide post-study work pathways that allow eligible international graduates to remain in the country, gain professional experience, and potentially transition to long-term employment or permanent residency, subject to the country’s immigration regulations.
While post-study work policies differ from country to country and are subject to change, many destinations have established pathways designed to help graduates enter the workforce.
Canada is one of the most attractive destinations for international students due to its generous post-study work opportunities.
Students who graduate from eligible Designated Learning Institutions (DLIs) may qualify for the Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP).
The length of the PGWP generally depends on the duration of the completed study program:
International students studying on an F-1 Student Visa may be eligible for Optional Practical Training (OPT) after successfully completing their degree.
OPT allows graduates to gain professional work experience directly related to their field of study.
Mexico currently does not have a dedicated post-study work visa similar to Canada’s PGWP or the USA’s OPT.
However, graduates who secure employment with a recognised employer may be able to transition to an appropriate work permit or temporary resident status in accordance with Mexican immigration regulations.
International graduates who obtain employment with a Brazilian company may apply for a work residence permit through employer sponsorship, subject to the country’s immigration requirements.
Argentina provides pathways for graduates to remain in the country if they obtain employment or meet the requirements for a change in immigration status under applicable regulations.
Graduates may explore employer-sponsored work visas upon receiving a qualifying job offer from a Chilean employer.
International graduates who receive employment offers may apply for relevant work visas based on Colombian immigration policies.
Peru offers work visa options for eligible graduates who obtain employment with local employers, subject to immigration rules.
International work experience significantly enhances a graduate’s professional profile by providing practical exposure in a global work environment.
